Sept. 30, 2010
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara will be featured a minimum of four times and possibly as many as six during the 2010-11 Big West Conference men's basketball television package that the league revealed Wednesday. The Gauchos are the Big West's defending regular season and tournament champion.
The first Gaucho game broadcast will be a Tuesday, Dec. 28 rematch of the 2010 Big West Tournament championship game. UCSB and Long Beach State will battle at the Thunderdome in an 8:00 p.m. game that will be aired on ESPNU.
The Gauchos will make consecutive television appearances at the beginning of February. On Thursday, Feb. 3, the UCSB-Pacific game will tip-off at 8:30 p.m. and be carried by ESPNU. Two days later, on Saturday, Feb. 5, the Gauchos will host UC Davis at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on Prime Ticket.
Fox Sports West will air Santa Barbara's Saturday, Feb. 12 game at UC Irvine. The game against the Anteaters will start at 5:30 p.m.
UCSB could make two other appearances as part of the Big West package. The most likely of the two will come on Saturday, Feb. 26 when three of four league games will be carried either on ESPN2, ESPNU or Fox Sports West. The Gauchos play at Long Beach State that evening and that game would seem a likely choice to air. The other opportunity could come on Feb. 19, BracketBuster Saturday. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will televise a total of 11 BracketBuster games. The televised games will be announced on Jan. 31.
Santa Barbara will open its season with an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 5 when it hosts the Master's College at 7:00 p.m. The Gauchos open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 when they travel to Eugene, Ore., to play the University of Denver in the BTI Invitational. They will also play North Dakota State and Oregon in the tournament. UCSB's first home game will be against Fresno State on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
