UC Santa Barbara was ranked 11th in the annual Mid-Major Top-25 Poll released by CollegeInsider.com on Tuesday, October 14, 2003.
The No. 11 ranking is the highest mark the Gauchos have ever received from CollegeInsider.com in the five years the poll has been conducted. Last season Santa Barbara entered the year ranked 15th by CollegeInsider and finished conference play with the school's first ever regular-season Big West Championship.
The only other Big West team ranked in the Top-25 was Utah State, which earned a No. 14 ranking. UC Irvine also received votes but did not crack the Top-25.
Gonzaga landed the first place ranking after receiving 26 of 32 first place votes. Manhattan placed second and Illinois-Chicago ranked third. East Tennessee State, Wichita State, Miami (Ohio), Creighton, Louisiana-Lafayette, Northern Illinios, and the College of Charleston rounded out the Top-10. The voting for the Mid-Major Top-25 was handled by a panel of 32 coaches, all from Mid-Major schools.
The only other schools to receive first place votes were Wichita State, Creighton, and Butler, each receiving two votes apiece.
