SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - In an effort to reach out to the community and to boost men's and women's basketball season ticket sales, the UC Santa Barbara Athletic Department is inviting fans to "Catch a Gaucho Game...on Us!"
By filling out a voucher - available online at www.ucsbgauchos.com or outside the Thunderdome on game day - fans be admitted free of charge to the first men's and women's contests of the 2005-06 season. Admission will be capped when the 6,000-seat arena is filled. The UCSB men tip things off by hosting UC San Diego on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m., while the Gaucho women take the court for the first time this year on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2:00 p.m. against Cal State Bakersfield.
As an added bonus, both UCSB squads are hosting postgame autograph sessions, where 1,500 complementary team posters will be handed out each day.
"What a fantastic opportunity for people who have never experienced the excitement of NCAA basketball to enjoy a game in the Thunderdome," men's head coach Bob Williams said. "We're looking forward to an outstanding season on the court, and would like as many fans as possible to join us at our home games."
"I've always felt that we have one of the best home-court atmospheres in the entire country, and now it's time to recruit a new generation of Gaucho fans," women's head coach Mark French stated. "When the Thunderdome is rockin', there's no better place to be in Santa Barbara!"
