The Gaucho Record
UC Santa Barbara enters its final exhibition game of the 2006-07 preseason at 1-0. The Gauchos opened the year with a 62-51 win over visiting UC San Diego on Nov. 1

Rivalry Renewed, But Only For Practice
UCSB and Westmont College have played 47 times in a series that dates back to 1949. The teams have actually met more than 47 times but, like tonight, several have been exhibition contests and have not counted in the all-time series. The Gauchos hold the "official" edge in the series by a 42-5 margin. The last time the Warriors posted a win was during Bob Williams' first season at UCSB, 1998-99

Win Over UCSD Had Some Ups And Downs
Last week's exhibition win over UC San Diego was hardly a thing of beauty, but it did produce some positives. Playing without two starters, the Gauchos were able to build a 19-point lead at halftime and then coast to victory. The Tritons did pull to within eight points in the second half, but could get no closer. Alex Harris paced UCSB with 23 points. The junior from Alameda, Calif., made 5-of-7 shots from the field and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Junior Chris Devine added 13 points and freshman James Powell had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals. Two causes of concern for UCSB were turnovers and rebounding. The Gauchos had 18 turnovers and were outrebounded 34-26.

Brown, Turner Remain Sidelined
UCSB will continue to be without senior guard Cecil Brown and senior forward Glenn Turner. Brown has a stress fracture in his left foot and is out until at least late-November. Turner has a groin injury and his return date is not yet determined.

Probable Starters - Notes
G - James Powell - Freshman had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals in debut.
G - Alex Harris - Had it been regular season, 23 would have been his career-high.
F - Chris Devine - Made all six of his two-point attempts in win over UCSD.
F - Ivan Elliott - Tied for team-high honors with six rebounds vs. UCSD.
F - Tom Garlepp - Blocked three shots in the exhibition opener.

Probable Reserves - Notes
G - Paul Roemer - Walk-on logged nine minutes and had two assists vs. UCSD.
G - Justin Joyner - Struggled in his debut going scoreless in 25 minutes.
G - Trevor Bing - Both of his shot attempts were three-pointers and he made one.
F - Emmanuel Bidias a Mouté - Scored two points in 10 minutes vs. UCSD.
F - Beau Gibb - Redshirt sophomore had a pair of rebounds in eight minutes.
F - David Massey - Had two fouls in one minute vs. UCSD.

Friday Against San Jose State Is The Real Thing
UCSB will open the 2006-07 regular season on Friday night against San Jose State. The Nov. 10 start to the season is the earliest ever for the Gauchos. The previous earliest start was in Bob Williams' first season when they opened on Nov. 14.
