UCSB Is Seventh at The Farms Invitational
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Kei Kita carded a 6-over par 222, including a 1-under par in the third and final round on Tuesday, to tie for 14th and lead UC Santa Barbara to a seventh-place team finish in The Farms Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
The Gauchos shot a three round total of 911, 47-over par, three shots back of the host school the University of San Diego for sixth-place in the 14-team tournament. SMU was fifth at 34-over par 898. The team title was won by San Diego State, which was 2-under par 862, 12 shots ahead of St. Mary's and 31 shots better than Missouri and UC Irvine.
UCSB's other top-40 finishers included Paul Otte who tied for 26th with an 11 over par 227, Tyler Sterk who carded a 16-over par 232 to tie for 34th and Michael Haeri who finished at 18-over par 234, tying for 36th.
The individual medalist honors went to San Diego State's J.J. Spaun. Spaun complted his three rounds at 4-under par 212, two shots better than teammate Alex Kang and St. Mary's Anders Engell. St. Mar's Mac McClung was the only other player to shoot below par at 1-under 215.
The Gauchos return to action on April 2-3 when they host their own OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate at scenic Sandpiper Golf Course.
