SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara will host the OGIO‐UCSB Invitational Golf Tournament at scenic Sandpiper Golf Club on the coast just north of Santa Barbara, on Monday and Tuesday, April 2-3, 2012. The tournament will be 54 holes, 36 on the first day, and 18 on day two.
The OGIO‐Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Tournament will be played at Sandpiper for the second consecutive year. Previous tourneys were played at Rancho San Marcos, La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc and the Alisal River Course in Solvang.
"Sandpiper is a beautiful and challenging course," said UCSB head coach Steve Lass. "I also think it is good for the schools in the tournament to play a course that really reflects Santa Barbara and Sandpiper certainly does."
In addition to UCSB, the tournament field will include Big West Conference rivals Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State and UC Riverside. Cal State Bakersfield, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Seattle University, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, Wyoming and the University of British Columbia will round out the 13‐team field. There will be several individuals competing as well.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, April 2 with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes are on Tuesday, April 3 with tee times ranging from 8:00‐9:40 a.m. Sandpiper is a 7,068‐yard, par 72 course.
The 2011 OGIO-UCSB Invitational was won by Oregon, which defeated the second-place Gauchos by 27 shots. The individual winners were Daniel Miernicki and Jack Dukeminier who each . Past individual champions have included Craig Stadler (1973), Scott Simpson (1977) and Duffy Waldorf (1985).
