Kita, Otte Finish 3-4, UCSB is 5th at Big West Championship
LA QUINTA, Calif. - Kei Kita shot a 4-under par 212 and Paul Otte carded a 3-under par 213 to finish 3-4 at the Big West Championship Tournament at the La Quinta Mountain Course on Tuesday. The Gauchos finished fifth in the team standings.
Kita entered the final round a 3-under par and shot one below par to move his score to 4-under for the tournament. Otte was actually 6-under entering play Tuesday but finished with a 3-over round of 75 to tie for fourth. Russell Boring tied for 16th with a 3-over par 219.
As a team, the Gauchos were in third-place after the first two rounds but Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton were outstanding in the final round to pass them. UC Davis won the league crown with a score of 858, one shot better than Long Beach, three better than Fullerton, five better than Pacific and nine better than UCSB. UC Irvine was sixth, 10 shots off the pace.
Pacific's Alex Edford claimed the individual crown with a 13-under par 203, five shots better than Fullerton's Mark Anguiano and nine ahead of Kita.
