Gauchos Tied for Ninth After First Round of at Big West Championships

SAN JACINTO, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara golf team is tied for ninth after one round at the 2013 Big West Championships being played over three days at The Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, Calif. 

The team competition was tight after the first round with just eight shots separating the eight teams from third through ninth.  Hawaii leads after one round with a 4-over par 292, one shot ahead of Cal State Fullerton.  

Glen Scher, a two-time medalist this season and two-time Big West Player of the Month, is tied with teammated Brett Silvernail for 19th place among individuals.  The Gauchos each shot 3-over par 75s.  Jordan Epstein is tied for 31st at 5-over par and Marshall Colby is tied for 35th at 6-over par.

The co-leaders after one round are Corey Gard of Cal State Fullerton and Nainoa Calip of Hawaii who each shot 3-under par 69s.
