TEMPE, Ariz. - UC Santa Barbara junior Glen Scher completed the first round of the NCAA Tempe Regional with a 9-over par 79 and he is in 73rd-place with two rounds to go.

Scher, the Big West Player of the Year, is competing as an individual at the tournament.  He was solid early, but struggled late in the round to finish with a 79.  The individual leaders are Pontus Widegren of UCLA and Dustin Korte of Austin Peay who each carded a 6-under par 64.  UCLA, in fact, had five of the top six scorers on the day and easily leads the team competition with a 12-under par, 10 shots ahead of Duke.

Play will continue on Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course on Friday.  Scher and his threesome will tee-off from the 10th tee at 8:50 a.m.
