LONG BEACH, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara shot a 3-under par 837 to finish in a second-place tie with Arizona at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif. on Tuesday.
Glen Scher shot a 2-under par 208 to tie for 7th-place overall to lead the Gauchos, who were tied for second after all three rounds of the tournament. UCSB and Arizona each finished one stroke behind the tournament winner, Minnesota.
Overall, the Gauchos had three players finish among the top-16 in the tournament. In addition to Scher, Jordan Epstein shot an even-par 210 en route to a tie for 12th and Brett Silvernail finished at 1-over par 211, tying for 16th.
Santa Barbara had one of its most consistent tournaments of the year, finishing 3-under par in the first round, 1-under in the second and 1-over in the third and final round. In addition to tying Arizona and narrowly missing a first-place finish, the Gauchos were one shot better than fourth-place Long Beach State and three better than Wichita State. They were the highest finishing team from the Big West Conference.
Long Beach's Kevin Lee won the individual medalist honors with an 8-under par 202. Kyle Sauer of Cal Stae Northridge was second at 7-under par, while Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano was third at 5-under. Minnesota's Jon Trasamar and Alex Gaugert finished fourth and fifth respectively at 4-under and 3-under.
UCSB will next compete at the Lexus Bulldog Classic, hosted by Fresno State, on Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 10-11.
