SOMIS, Calif. - Brandon Bauman finished with a 7-over par 223 to tie for fourth-place and lead UC Santa Barbara to a second-place team finish at the Waves Challenge at the Saticoy Country Club on Tuesday.
The Gauchos finished with a 914, 37 shots behind Pepperdine and one shot ahead of Boise State.
Bauman carded an even par 72 in the final round to move up four spots in the individual standings. His score was just two shots out of second-place. The tournament's medalist, Sahith Theegala of host Pepperdine, blew the field away with an 11-under par 2015, 16 shots ahead of his teammate Joshua McCarthy. Brian Humphreys of Boise State was third at 6-over par, while Cal State Northridge's Felix Mory tied Bauman for fourth at 7-over.
Nick Swanson shot a 4-under par 68 in the final round, second only to Theegala, to finish in a tie for eighth-place at 9-over par. Kyle Maspat tied for 32nd at 20-over par, while Matt Moomjian was 25-over par, tying for 45th, and Brandon Bueno was 65th at 33-over par. Bueno, however, had one of the highlights of the tournament. Making his first collegiate appearance, he had a hole-in-one on the 10th hole in the first round.
UCSB returns to action when it travels to the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Kauai, Hawai'i on Feb. 15-17.
