LA QUINTA, Calif. - Nick Swanson shot a 3-under par 69 final round to finish at -4 for the tournament, good for fourth-place, as UC Santa Barbara finished fifth at the 12-team Geiberger Invitational at the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course on Tuesday.
Swanson, who shot at or under par in all three rounds of the tournament, saved his best for last with the 3-under in the third round. Teammate Brett Bennett, who entered the final day at 4-over par, carded a final round of 4-under to finish at even par, tying him for 15th in the individual standings.
Brandon Bauman finished with a 1-over par 217, tying for 17th, while Matt Moomjian finished with a 6-over 222, tying for 35th. Kyle Maspat rounded out the Gaucho lineup with a 9-over 225, tying for 44th.
As a team, UCSB shot an even par 864, eight shots off the pace.
BYU and Santa Clara each finished at 8-under par to tie for the team title. Loyola Marymount was third at 6-under and Fresno State was fourth at 5-under par.
Fresno State's Alex Lee won individual medalist honors with a 7-under 209, one shot better than Hayden Shieh and two better than Derek Ackerman, each of whom competed for Santa Clara. Swanson was four shots back in fourth-place.
The Gauchos return to action on Monday and Tuesday, April 16-17 when they host the UCSB Intercollegiate at Sandpiper Golf Course.
