SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sophomore Brett Bennett and junior Nick Swanson were each selected First Team All-Big West Conference, while sophomore Matt Moomjian was a second team honoree and senior Brandon Bauman earned honorable mention, the league announced Wednesday.
Bennett competed in 10 of the team's 11 tournaments in 2017-18 and he paced the team in average shots per round at 72.77. He had five top-10 finishes for the Gauchos including a season-best fourth-place at the Sacramento State Invitational. Bennett shot 11 rounds of golf either at or under par.
Swanson played in all 11 of UCSB's tournament this season. He was second on the team in shots per round at 73.12 and had six top-10 finishes, including a tie for third-place at the UCSB Intercollegiate and back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the Seattle Redhawk Invitational and the Geiberger Invitational. Swanson carded 14 rounds at or under par.
Moomjian also played in all 11 tournaments, averaging 73.96 shots per round. He had two top-10 finishes, including a second-place at the UCSB Intercollegiate, and he shot 12 rounds at or under par. Moomjian was also named Big West Golfer of the Month for November this past season.
Like Swanson and Moomjian, Bauman played in all 11 tournament. He averaged 73.84 shots per round and had three top-10 finishes. At the Big West Conference Tournament, Bauman tied for the individual title and lost in a two-hole playoff. He shots 12 rounds at or under par in the 2017-18 campaign.
"To get four players mentioned on the all-conference team is great," said UCSB head coach Steve Lass. "They are all very deserving."
