Glen Scher shot a 6-over par 222 to finish tied for 15th and help UC Santa Barbara to a fifth-place finish in the Anteater Invitational at the Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach on Tuesday.
Scher fired a season-best 3-under par in the first round on Monday to get off to a good start. Chris Rendler finished one shot behind Scher with a 7-over par 223 while Andrew Gunson was 8-over par at 224.
The Gauchos finished three shots behind Santa Clara, which finished fourth at 888, and five back of Cal Poly, which finished third at 886. The tournament was won by the University of Arizona which carded an 872 to defeat UC Irvine, the host school, by four shots.
Irvine's Bryan Harris and Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio tied for the individual title with 5-under par 211s, cut Harris defeated Delio in a one-hole playoff for the title.
UCSB returns to action at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 26-27 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
