Golf Struggles To Eighth-Place Finish At Big West Championships

The UC Santa Barbara golf team shot a final-round 305 to complete the Big West Tournament with a 903, tying the University of North Texas for eighth-place at the Big West Championship Tournament at Serrano Country Club in El Dorado Hills, Calif.
The Gauchos finished 23-shots back of the Big West Champion, University of Idaho.
UCSB's top finisher was Gavin Owen who shot a three-round total of 222, good enough for his best finish of the year, a tie for 12th. Naoya Takemoto, a senior, shot 225 to finish in a tie for 21st. The other Gauchos who competed at the tournament were Jeff Wood (227, tie for 24th), Jeff Linklater (229, tie for 35th) and Scott Linklater (244, 49th).
Idaho, which won the tournament in a playoff with New Mexico State, shot an 880. The Aggies also shot 880. Long Beach State finished third at 882, Nevada was fourth at 885, UC Irvine was fifth at 890, Pacific was sixth at 895 and Boise State was seventh at 901. The Gauchos and North Texas were followed by tenth-place Utah State (920).
