MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Andrew Gunson shot an even-par 144, tying for fourth-place, and UC Santa Barbara is tied for third after three round of the 2010 Big West Men's Golf Championship. The Gauchos are 16-over par, one shot back of second-place Pacific, and tied with Long Beach State.
Gunson carded even-par 72 in the first and second rounds on Monday at the Mission Viejo Country Club in Mission Viejo, Calif. Russell Boring and Brian Hollenbeck each shot 5-over par 149 and are tied for 15th.
UC Irvine, led by Johnny Chin who is at 6-under par 138 through 36 holes, leads the tournament by a huge margin. The Anteaters are at even-par 576 through the first two rounds. Cal State Northridge's Chris Russo is in second-place after two rounds with a 4-under par 140. Cal Poly, which is in seventh-place at 35-over par, 19 shots back of the Gauchos, has the third-place player, Pace Johnson, who is at 2-under par 142.
The final round of the tournament will be on Tuesday. The Gauchos trail UC Irvine by 16 shots, and Pacific by one. They are tied with Long Beach, and four shots up on Cal State Northridge, 12 shots up on UC Davis, and 19 shots ahead of Blue-Green Rivalry Series nemesis Cal Poly, entering the final round.
