Gauchos Open 2009-10 Season With 10th-Place Finish at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

Senior Brian Hollenbeck shot a 1-under par 215 to tie for fifth-place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and UCSB tied for 10th in its opening competition of the 2009-10 season.

Hollenbeck shot at par 72 in the first and third rounds and a 1-under 71 in the second round to tie for fifth out of 92 golfers. Hollenbeck was joined in the top-30 by junior Russell Boring, a transfer from Ventura College, who finished at 7-over par 223, tied for 26th.

Juniors Tyler Weir and Scott Lewis each tied for 61st, carding 15-over par 231. The final Gaucho was junior Chris Rendler who shot a 19-over 235.

Santa Clara won the team title by shooting an 872, four shots better than Cal State Northridge and five better than Nebraska and the host school, Wyoming.

Wyoming's Gabe Maier won the individual crown by shooting an 8-under 208. Scott Travers of Santa Clara was second at 5-under 211.

UCSB returns to action on Oct. 22-23 when it travels to Long Beach State's Del Walker Intercollegiate.
