LONG BEACH, Calif. -
Junior Greg Wells shot a 1-over par 214, to finish in a tie for sixth-place and lead UC Santa Barbara to a fifth-place team finish at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach on Friday.
Wells was consistent in his three rounds, shooting a first round 70 and then 72s in both the second and third rounds. He finished five shots behind Denver's Barrett Jarosch, who won individual honors with a 4-under par 209.
Sophomore Joe Ryon was five shots back of Wells, shooting a 219 to finish 6-over par and in a tie for 17th-place.
The other three Gauchos in the tournament all finished with a 12-over par 225, good for a 37th-place tie. Junior Michael Feuerstein, senior Nick Telliard, and freshman Darren Schultz each carded a 225.
Lamar University shot a 10-over par 862 to win the team title, they finished three shots ahead of Denver (865) and four shots ahead of Long Beach State and UC Irvine (866).
The Gauchos return to action next week at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch.
