SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Harder Stadium, site of the largest and most passionate crowds in college soccer, will be even louder during the upcoming 2011 soccer season. The Big West Conference is now permitting the use of noisemakers - excluding whistles and canned air horns - at regular season men's and women's soccer matches. The news should be music to the ears of Gaucho fans who continue to create the best environment in college soccer.
The move was made to enhance the game day experience at Big West stadiums and to help create an atmosphere more similar to international and professional soccer venues.
In order to usher in this new era at Harder Stadium, UCSB will have two noisemaker giveaways at the men's soccer games against Seattle (Aug. 27) and UC Irvine (Oct. 1). Check UCSBgauchos.com later this summer for the full list of upcoming soccer promotions.
The men's soccer team will open its 2011 campaign on Aug. 20 against Westmont in an exhibition match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. The match is one of 12 exciting home pairings - including games against defending NCAA Champion Akron, Blue-Green rival Cal Poly and the anticipated Big West-Big East showcase against West Virginia and Villanova - slated for the Gauchos at home this season.
