SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Major League Soccer will hold its 2012 SuperDraft tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 12 in Kansas City, Missouri. The proceedings will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN 3 at 9 a.m.

Seniors Luis Silva and James Kiffe, along with junior Sam Garza, just completed action at the MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where they were observed by MLS coaches.

Silva has been projected to be one of the top draft prospects this year and is in Kansas City for the draft. Garza, meanwhile, chose to forgo his senior season and sign a Generation adidas contract.

UCSB has had 10 players selected in the MLS SuperDraft since 2004: Memo Arzate (2004), Tony Lochhead (2005), Bryan Byrne (2007), Ciaran O'Brien (2008), Andy Iro (2008), Eric Avila (2008), Brennan Tennelle (2008), Chris Pontius (2009), David Walker (2010) and Michael Tetteh (2011). O'Brien was the top pick in Gaucho history, going fifth overall to Colorado in 2008.

Those players not picked up during Thursday's SuperDraft will still have a chance to be drafted by a MLS team in the 2012 Supplemental Draft, which takes place on Monday, Jan. 17.

Eight Gauchos have been drafted during the Supplemental Draft: Drew McAthy (2005), Dan Kennedy (2005), Ivan Becerra (2006), Eric Frimpong (2007), Kyle Reynish (2007), Tino Nunez (2008), Greg Curry (2008) and Michael Boxall (2011).
