SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Former UC Santa Barbara standout Danny Barrera signed with the Atlanta Silverbacks this week.
The midfielder made the move just days after his Cal FC coach, Eric Wynalda, was named the new head coach for the Silverbacks.
Barrera spent three seasons at UCSB and garnered Big West Midfielder of the Year honors in both 2009 and 2010. Following the 2010 season, he left UCSB to pursue a professional career. He has played professionally with Ventura County Fusion, Serbian side FK Spartak Zlatibor Voda and most recently with Cal FC.
"I'm ready to move on and up in my career," said Barrera. "All I want to do is play and continue to get better. I can do that under Eric at Atlanta. This is just the beginning."
"I've wanted Danny to play for me since I saw him in Santa Barbara in 2010," says Wynalda. "He's a special talent with a lot to offer. This is a new beginning for him despite his many accomplishments thus far. I'm ecstatic to have him as part of this team."
