SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Two of UC Santa Barbara's men's soccer home matches have been selected as NSCAA College Games of the Week and will be broadcast on FOX Soccer it was announced on Friday. The Gauchos' Sept. 21 pairing against UCLA and their Oct. 29 game against rival Cal Poly will both be televised live from Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
Match-ups between the Gauchos and both the Bruins and Mustangs have drawn some of the largest crowds in college soccer history. When UCSB last hosted UCLA in 2010, a record crowd of 15,896 poured into Harder Stadium, marking the largest on-campus attendance in NCAA lore. The rivalry against Cal Poly, meanwhile, has drawn three of the NCAA's top-10 regular season attendances, including last season's crowd of 13,822, which ranks fifth all-time nationally.
The only way for fans to guarantee their seats to both of these marquee match-ups is by purchasing season tickets. The popular Family Plan includes five tickets for just $178. This year, the plan will also serve as a Flex Plan with either two season passes and three GKids memberships or five tickets – it's your call! GKids remains the best value in town for kids with access to every regular season game in every sport while wearing your GKids t-shirt. This marks the fifth consecutive season that UCSB will play in two televised contests and the fourth time in the last five years that the rivalry against Cal Poly will be played out in front of a national audience. UCSB, St. John's and Virginia are the only three men's programs that will be featured twice during the 2012 season.
The Gauchos have shown the propensity to shine while on camera, collecting a 9-2-3 record in TV games and they own a 7-2 record in FOX Soccer contests. Seven Of UCSB's nine televised wins have been shutouts.
