SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara welcomed cross-town foe Westmont to Meredith Field at Harder Stadium on Saturday evening for the teams' 2012 edition of the Bryant and Sons Cup and the Gauchos came out on top for the 12th consecutive year as they posted a 3-0 victory over the Warriors in the season-opening exhibition.
For the match, UCSB out-shot the Warriors 20-4 and had a 9-1 advantage in shots on-goal.
Goalkeeper André Grandt needed just one save in the first half to secure the shutout. Austin Mansker made his debut in goal for the Gauchos during the second half. For the Warriors, McNab notched six saves, four of which came in the first stanza.
In all, 23 UCSB players appeared in the exhibition. Sarle and Javier Castro led the squad with four shots apiece. Peter McGlynn, Boateng and Castro each had two on-frame.
UCSB will officially open the 2012 season next Sunday, Aug. 26 at Loyola Marymount. The Gauchos will return home on Sept. 7 to host Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m. at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
