SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Athletics Department is proud to announce that it will host its first "Zero Waste Weekend" during this Friday and Sunday's men's soccer games at Harder Stadium.
UCSB Athletics has collaborated with Associated Students Recycling, Housing and Residential Services, UCSB Sustainability, Plastic Pollution Coalition, ESSR, and MarBorg Industries to put on this weekend's zero waste event. During Friday and Saturday's games, no landfill waste items will be allowed into Harder Stadium.
As fans may have seen throughout the season, UCSB Athletics has been working towards improving the waste management system at Harder by providing depositories throughout the stadium for compostable and recyclable materials in addition to cans for landfill items.
The zero waste effort is a significant step in decreasing the amount of waste UCSB sends to the landfill and will contribute to the campus' ongoing sustainability efforts.
UCSB will host non-conference foe Stanford on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The Gauchos' seven seniors will be honored prior to game time. On Sunday, UCSB will host its final regular season home pairing against UC Davis at 2 p.m.
