Baiden Named a Preseason All-American
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior midfielder Fifi Baiden was named to the 2013 College Sports Madness Preseason All-American Team, it was announced by the website on Friday.
Baiden, a Third Team selection, was the sole Big West player honored by College Sports Madness, who ranked the Gauchos at No. 31 in their preseason poll.
The inclusion is another preseason accolade for Baiden, who – along with senior forward Achille Campion – has been widely recognized nationally. During the offseason, the Ghana native has been picked for the Preseason All-Conference Team, ranked among the Top-100 Division-I players, and named a top-10 midfielder in the country.
"Fifi has certainly established himself at this level," said UCSB head coach Tim Vom Steeg. "Our goal is to have Fifi on the field the whole year, because he does a lot of good things for our team."
A defensively minded midfielder, Baiden will be the anchor of the Gauchos midfield, playing in tandem with the team's backline. His defensive prowess does more than help UCSB prevent goals, his ability to cover his teammates allows them to enter the attack with more confidence.
Fifi and the rest of the Gauchos will open their season tomorrow night with an exhibition matchup against Montecito-based Westmont. Season tickets are still available for fans, with options starting as low as $3 per game. Season seat packages will be available at the Westmont game, and can also be purchased in advance by calling 805.893.UCSB, visiting the ticket office at the ICA building on campus, or clicking here.
