Jome Named a Preseason All-American by College Sports Madness
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara sophomore winger Ismaila Jome was named to the 2014 College Sports Madness Preseason All-American Team, the website announced today.
The reigning Big West Freshman of the Year and a 2014 Preseason All-Conference Team selection, Jome was one of just two Big West players to be included on the team, Cal State Northridge forward Sagi Lev-Ari being the other.
The crafty midfielder recorded two goals and seven assists as a freshman in 2013 while terrorizing opposing defenses down the left flank. He will be relied upon to provide even more offensive firepower this season for a team that graduated a pair of forwards in Achille Campion and Goffin Boyoko who combined to score just under half of the team's 31 goals a year ago.
The Gauchos have now had a Preseason All-American in each of the past five seasons, the only Big West program to do so over that timespan.
UCSB will play in its annual exhibition game for the Bryant and Sons Cup when it hosts Westmont College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. The regular season opens with games at the College of Charleston and Furman on Aug. 29 and Aug. 31 respectively. The first regular season Meredith Field at Harder Stadium appearance will be Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. against Northwestern.
