SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After leading No. 7 UC Santa Barbara to a pair of wins over WCC foes San Diego and St. Mary's, Senior forward Nick DePuy and junior midfielder Kevin Feucht both picked up weekly awards on Labor Day.
DePuy, a member of the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and a Preseason All-American, was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each contest while Feucht was named to the College Soccer News Team of the the Week with two goals and an assist.
It was the sixth career Big West weekly award for DePuy, second-most in league history. The Irvine, Calif. native notched his first goal of the season in Friday's win over the Toreros, heading home a Randy Mendoza cross in the 48th minute. He then scored the only goal in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Gaels, ripping a right-footed shot past the SMC keeper after a beautiful turn off a pass from Feucht.
With the pair of wins on the weekend, UCSB is now an undefeated 18-0-4 all-time when DePuy finds the back of the net.
Feucht followed up his strong week one (one goal, All-Tournament honors for Ohio State's Wolstein Classic) with an impressive showing in week two, scoring the first two goals of the game against USD in the span of 53 seconds before setting up DePuy's game winner against St. Mary's.
With a perfect 4-0-0 record, UCSB is off to its best start since the 2011 season. The Gauchos return to the state of Ohio this weekend for a neutral site game against No. 23 Butler on Friday at 1:30 p.m. before facing No. 4 Akron at 4:30 p.m. next Monday.
