SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After potting the game-tying goal against UC Riverside and the game-winner against Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara junior midfielder Kevin Feucht was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The German midfielder is one of the hottest players in the country right now, scoring a goal in five straight contests. He is one of six UCSB players all-time to accomplish that feat, joining teammate Nick DePuy – who scored in five straight in 2015 – and trailing only Rob Friend's school-record 12-game scoring streak.
With his pair of scores, Feucht extended his conference-leading goal total to eight.
This is the first Big West weekly award in Feucht's career, but it is not the first time he has been honored in 2016. On Sept. 5, he was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week after helping UCSB to a pair of wins over St. Mary's and San Diego.
Scoring in the 87th minute on a beautiful free kick against the Highlanders, Feucht capped off a solid comeback for a UCSB side that trailed 2-0 at one point and was down to 10 men for the final 25 minutes of the game.
Feucht came to the rescue again on the road against the Titans, getting his head on a bouncing cross in the 92nd minute to break a six-game winless streak for the Gauchos.
After opening conference play on the road last weekend, UCSB returns home for a three-game homestand starting with a Thursday night showdown against UC Irvine, continuing with Saturday's tilt against Cal State Northridge, and wrapping up with a contest against Sacramento State on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
