SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Freshman goalkeeper Alan Carrillo earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping UC Santa Barbara post two shutouts in the opening week of play, the league announced Monday.

Making his Gauchos debut, Carrillo (La Mirada, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) totaled six saves while logging all 220 minutes in front of the net while holding St. Mary's and Siena (N.Y.) without a goal.

In the season opener against the Gaels, Carrillo finished with five saves, including a key stop in a 1-on-1 situation and another sensational diving save later in the match. Against Siena on Sunday, the UCSB defense limited the Saints to just five shots total, with Carrillo notching a save on the only shot on goal.

UCSB (0-0-2) tallied back-to-back draws for the first time since 2008 and will head to University of San Diego this Friday, Sept. 1 for its next match.
