SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - For the second time this season, UC Santa Barbara freshman keeper Alan Carrillo was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Carrillo was instrumental in extending the Gauchos' unbeaten streak to six games, helping the team to a 1-0-1 week to remain unbeaten in Big West action (3-0-1).
In a 1-0 double overtime victory on the road at Cal State Northridge, Carrillo logged three saves while securing his conference-leading fifth shutout. Overall, he is tied for 22nd nationally in the category.
Rounding out the week against UC Irvine, Carrillo was tested heavily to the tune of 22 shots from the Anteaters, but the freshman managed to match his career-high with eight saves. The lone goal against him was on a penalty kick and he now has 39 saves for the year.
UCSB (5-4-3, 3-0-1) begins Big West North Division action this Wednesday, Oct. 11 at UC Davis at 4:00 p.m. The Gauchos will return home for the much-anticipated Blue-Green Rivalry matchup against Cal Poly on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. The match will air on Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
