SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Just weeks removed from earning Gatorade Arizona Soccer Player of the Year honors, incoming freshman Carter Clemmensen continued to reel in postseason accolades after being named the American Family Insurance All-USA Boys Soccer Player of the Year, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Clemmensen, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound forward out of Brophy College Prep, racked up 39 goals to go along with 13 assists as senior while leading the Broncos (22-1-2) to the Conference 6A state championship game. He finished with 14 multi-goal games, including an impressive eight in a row to start the season, and concluded his prep career with 113 goals and 24 assists.
"It's a great feeling because of the hard work that it took to get to this point. I don't feel it's a validation for Arizona soccer as a whole, but it should be a validation to Brophy's soccer program and the college/pro players they have produced over the years," Clemmensen said. "It was on my mind and something I wanted to accomplish but my main goal was to have great team success because of the great bond I had with my teammates."
Led by Clemmensen, Brophy Prep won the Arizon Showcase which featured top teams from Arizona and California. He also led the Broncos to a championship at the North Texas Elite Showcase, where Brophy Prep defeated three nationally ranked teams behind Clemmensen's nine goals.
"He's one of the most dangerous goalscorers in Arizona in a long time," Brophy coach Paul Allen said. "Give him a chance around the goal and he's going to punish defenders."
