2005:
Returning to the Gauchos after taking a year off to pursue his mechanical
engineering degree, Murphy excelled in his first season as a regular
starter...Appeared in 19 of UCSB's 21 matches, starting a career-high 16...Was
in the starting lineup for the Gauchos NCAA Tournament matches against San
Diego State and Cal State Northridge...Helped lead a UCSB defense that allowed
just 16 goals and finished the regular season with a goals against average
of 0.80, both of which led the Big West Conference...Scored on a header across
the frame to tie the game in the 48th minute of the Gauchos first matchup
with the Matadors (10/8)...Picked up an assist in a 4-0 win at Cal State
Fullerton (10/5) and on the equalizer in the 55th minute in a 2-2 draw at UC
Irvine (10/14) for four total points on the year.
2004: Took the season off
to concentrate on school.
2003: Murphy had a breakout year in his first
season seeing game action, appearing in 19 of the Gauchos¹ 22 matches, the
most for any non-full time starter...He led all defensive players with three
goals on the season, tying him for fourth overall on the team...Started 11
matches sporadically throughout the season, including both of UCSB¹s NCAA
Tournament matches...Added one assist for seven total points on the year,
sixth best on the squad and, again, the most by any defensive player on the
team...His .333 shot percentage was the highest on the squad with three goals
on nine shots...Finished his freshman season with a pair of game-wining goals,
third on the team, sealing the victories against Cal State Northridge
(10/18) and Cal (11/26), the latter coming in the second round of the NCAA
Tournament. 2002: Redshirted his first season with the Gauchos.
CLUB
Played for the Newport Beach Slammers FC and the Fullerton Rangers at the
club level...Helped lead the Slammers to the CAL National Finals in 2001 and
2003.
HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Servite High School...Scored 36 career goals while with the
Friars...Named team and Serra League Offensive MVP and First Team All-Orange
County as a senior...Helped lead the Friars to tournament championships at the
San Marcos Tourney in 2001, Brea Tourney in 1999 and back-to-back titles at
the Burroughs Tourney in 1998 and 1999...Murphy was awarded Principal¹s High
Honors upon graduation...He also belonged to the P.A.L. program.
PERSONAL
Jeffrey Thomas Murphy was born April 10, 1984 in Anaheim, CA...Is a mechanical
engineering major at UCSB...Would like become an executive for an engineering
based company after receiving a masters degree in business...Received Dean¹s
Honors his first year at UCSB...A member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors
Society, he won the 2005-06 Golden Eagle Award and was the Offerman
Scholarship Recipient as well...When he is not playing soccer he is probably
sleeping or studying...He cannot due without his computer...Before every game he
quietly reflects on what needs to be done to win...Is a fan of Ronaldinho and
would love the opportunity to play with him...Stepping into UCSB¹s Harder
Stadium for the first time is his most memorable sports moment and it has
become his favorite place to play...Favorite TV Show is "Nip/Tuck"...Enjoys
watching the movie "Super Troopers"...Always has milk in the
refrigerator...Would like people to know that ³there is no better place to go
to school than UCSB...Can best be described as focused...Nicknamed "Murf"...Has
one older and one younger brother, Brian and Keith, and one younger sister,
Shelly...Son of Mark and Carla Murphy.
What is it that you bring to the UCSB men¹s soccer program and what would
you like to help it accomplish?
"I want to bring energy and a powerful defensive presence to UCSB that will
lead us to the national championship."
