Grant Porter joins the Gauchos this season for his first season as assistant coach. A standout player at the University of North Carolina, Porter came to UCSB after spending one season at Georgia State. While at GSU he helped guide the Panthers to a semifinal appearance in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and a 9-8-1 overall record in his first season as a collegiate coach. As a four-year starter with the Tarheels, Porter helped lead the squad to an Atlantic Coast Conference title in 2000, and an NCAA National Championship in 2001. Porter also served as North Carolina's team captain his senior season ('03), earning the team's most valuable player honors the same year. On course to receive a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State, Porter earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UNC at Chapel Hill where he was awarded the Athletic Director's Scholar Athlete Award in 2004. Porter is single and resides in Santa Barbara.
