SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - In front of the second-best crowd in school history and the Fox Soccer Channel cameras, the UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team knocked off No. 11 Duke, 2-0, on Friday night at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.

With the win, UCSB improves to 7-3-2 overall and extends its current win streak to four games. Duke falls to 5-3-4 on the season. The Gauchos also improve to 7-1-3 in televised games and 5-1-0 in Fox Soccer Channel Games. Of UCSB's seven wins on TV, six have been shutouts.

After a scoreless first period, UCSB was finally able to break through the Blue Devil defense in the 56th minute. Danny Barrera started the game-winning play when he crossed the ball to David Opoku in the box, Opoku then headed the ball back to Michael Nonni and the sophomore crossed the ball back to Barrera, who headed the ball toward the opposite corner from outside the left post for his second goal of the season.

Sam Garza added the game's second goal in the 80th minute. The sophomore carried the ball down the right side of the field and at the corner of the box, he shot the ball low to the opposite corner, past goalkeeper James Belshaw, who had come out of the goal.

UCSB limited Duke to six shots during the game and just one during the first half. The Gauchos had nine shots in the win, with four on-frame. They also had a 6-1 advantage for corner kicks.

Garza and Michael Tetteh, who was making his first appearance following a six-game absence due to an injury, led the team with two shots apiece.

In the goal, Sam Hayden made two saves in his first game back from a three-game red card suspension. This marked the fifth-consecutive game that the Gauchos have limited their opposition to three or fewer shots on-goal.

The Gauchos welcomed 11,242 fans to Harder Stadium on Friday, which is the second biggest crowd in program history behind the Sept. 24 match against UCLA, which saw 15,896 fans pour into Harder Stadium.

UCSB set a NCAA record earlier this week against Cal Poly when it became the first team to draw three crowds of more than 6,000 in one regular season and with tonight's attendance, they have now welcomed four crowds exceeding that number.

The Gauchos will resume Big West Conference play on Sunday when they head to UC Riverside for a 6 p.m. match with the Highlanders.

UCSB is the proud host of the 2010 NCAA Men's College Cup, which will take place Dec. 10 and 12 at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. This marks the first time since the 2004 season that the Cup has been held on the West Coast.
