SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The defending National Champion UC Santa Barbara men's soccer program has announced plans for its annual Alumni event scheduled for the last weekend in April in Santa Barbara. UCSB former players, family, and friends are invited to come celebrate the program's first-ever national championship with a reception and game Saturday April 28.
The event will kickoff with the always popular alumni game Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. The game will be held at Rob Field, located behind the ICA building and Rob Gym. In the first game, Alumni Blue will square off with Alumni Gold followed by the Alumni White pitted against the 2006 National Champion Gauchos.
Following the game will be an alumni reception on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Intercollegiate Athletics Building located next to Robertson Gymnasium. In addition to two-time NSCAA National Coach of the Year Tim Vom Steeg acting as emcee, former coach Andy Kuenzli will be the keynote speaker at the event. Kuenzli was the head coach at UCSB from 1981-1989 and posted a record of 95-64-21 (.586) during his nine years at the helm of the program.
In addition, alumni can take advantage of the university-sponsored events during the "All Gaucho Reunion" that weekend. Festivities include a commencement green reception, music and food throughout the campus, an alumni film festival, and Santa Barbara favorite Jack Johnson performing live at Harder Stadium Saturday afternoon.
