April 6, 2011

Recent UC Santa Barbara graduate Michael Boxall made his debut with the All Whites - New Zealand's National Team - in a friendly with China on March 25. Boxall came in as a substitute and played the entire second half of the 1-1 draw.

The match marked his first full senior cap for New Zealand. Boxall had previously made two appearances for New Zealand 'A' at the 2006 Agribank Cup tournament in Hanoi, Vietnam. He appeared as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Thailand on Oct. 27, 2006, and the 1-0 victory over Bahrain's U-23 Olympic squad on Oct. 29, 2006. New Zealand 'A' finished third in the tournament.

In 2008, the defender helped the Oly-Whites qualify for their first-ever Men's Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing, China. His 12 appearances for New Zealand's U-23 Olympic squad included all three of his country's matches in Group C at the Beijing Olympics.

Boxall, who is now playing for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, appeared alongside former Gaucho Tony Lochhead during the friendly with China.
