SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Three former UC Santa Barbara men's soccer players, and one current player, will be playing in the Premier Development League championship game this Saturday at Buena High School in Ventura.
Danny Barrera, who started 12 games for the Gauchos last season, as well as former Gaucho standouts Alfonso Motagalvan, Ivan Becerra and Bryan Byrne will be playing for the Ventura Fusion of the PDL. The league is part of the United Soccer League and helps serve as a minor league to other professional soccer leagues.
Ventura's team will face the Chicago Fire Premier team for the PDL championship. In last week's semifinal in Laredo, Texas, Barrera scored a goal in Ventura's 6-1 win over the Bradenton (Fla.) Academics.
UCSB's soccer team, which has been ranked in the Top-25 a school-record seven straight seasons, and opens its season with an exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 22 vs. Westmont.
