Soccer America Releases Preseason Rankings and Names Preseason All-Americans

Aug. 26, 2010

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - As the nation gears up for the official start of the men's college soccer season, preseason rankings continue to be released and every poll thus far has ranked the UCSB men as a top-10 team. The most recent preseason poll, distributed by Soccer America, has the Gauchos as the No. 5 team in the nation.

In the Soccer America Men's Preseason Top 25, UCSB is the highest ranked west coast school and the only Big West Conference school that is ranked. Akron, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland are ranked one through four, respectively.

No. 11 UCLA, No. 13 Stanford and No. 22 Portland are the only other west coast schools named in the poll, which was released late Wednesday. For the complete Soccer America Men's Preseason Top 25 poll, click here.

In addition to being ranked by the publication, UCSB also had a player named to Soccer America's Men's Preseason All-Americans list. Junior Danny Barrera was honored as one of the nation's top-eight midfielders. It marks his second Preseason All-American honor as he was named to College Soccer News' Second Team earlier this month.
