SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 19th-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team will hold a special ceremony dedicating the Harder Stadium field to the Meredith family this Saturday, September 30 before kickoff of its 7:00 p.m. match with the University of Michigan. The Gauchos will recognize a family that has been actively involved with the program for over five years.
Tom and Lynn Meredith have been supporters of the men's soccer program since their son Will played at UCSB from 2000-02. In 2001, the Harder Stadium field was completely resurfaced after a generous donation from the family, helping create one of the most attractive facilities in the nation. The Meredith's have also provided four full scholarships and continue to give philanthropic support to the men's team.
"The Meredith's have been instrumental in our mission to take the program to the next level," head coach Tim Vom Steeg said. "They supported our team when we were relatively unknown on the national level and it is great to finally recognize them for their contributions."
UCSB will also unveil new state-of-the-art seat covers on three sections at Harder Stadium Saturday against the Wolverines, with the plan to add the plastic covers to the entire stadium in the near future.
In addition to the field dedication and new seating, the men's program and UCSB marketing department will be running several promotions on Saturday night. The first 500 general admission fans in attendance will receive free "UCSB Soccer" t-shirts courtesy of Soccer Action in Goleta. Secondly, all UCSB students in attendance will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" coupon from McDonalds.
Tickets for the match can be purchased at the UCSB Athletic Ticket Office or by calling 805-893-UCSB. They can also be purchased at the gate the day of the event, one hour prior to kickoff.
