• Busy Week Continues For UCSB
UC Santa Barbara got its week off to a strong start with Tuesday evening's 2-1 victory over central coast rival Cal Poly. The Gauchos will continue action on Friday when they host No. 11 Duke in a Fox Soccer Channel televised game. The pairing will be UCSB's final non-conference match of the regular season and will conclude a four match-homestand. On Sunday, UCSB will resume Big West play on the road for the first of two games against UC Riverside this year.

• Where To Tune In
If you are in the Santa Barbara area and will be tuning into Friday's game, you can catch it on channel 265 on Cox Cable, 149 on Dish Network and 613 on Direct TV.

• Gauchos Kick Cancer
Women in the United States have a one in eight lifetime risk of getting breast cancer. In an attempt to raise awareness about this devastating disease, UCSB Athletics has designated Friday's women's and men's soccer doubleheader as a Gauchos Kick Cancer event.

• For The Record
With Tuesday's win, UCSB improves to 6-3-2 on the season and 3-1 in Big West games. UCSB has won its last three straight and has won six of its last seven games, four by way of a shutout.

• Home Sweet Harder
The Gauchos improved their 2010 home record to 4-1-1 with their win over the Mustangs. UCSB is amidst a four-match home win streak since school has been back in session. UCSB has gone 232-119-40 (.644) all-time at Harder Stadium and 87-23-13 (.760) since Tim Vom Steeg took over the program in 1999.

• Smile For The Cameras
Friday's match will be the first of two games on the Gauchos' regular season slate that will be televised by Fox Soccer Channel; the second will be their Oct. 27 conference game at Cal Poly. UCSB has posted a 6-1-3 record in TV games and own a 4-1-0 record in FSC games. Of UCSB's six wins on TV, five have been shutouts.

• RPI Report
The NCAA's first Ratings Percentage Index report was released on Tuesday and it has the Gauchos 53rd on the list of all Division I programs. The RPI, which is updated throughout the season, factors into the seeding and selection for the NCAA Tournament.

• The Wild, Wild (Big) West
UCSB's 3-1 start in Big West play currently has it tied with UC Irvine (3-0) on the league's leaderboard, though the Anteaters have a game in hand. The Gauchos were chosen to finish first in the league this year in a preseason poll of the conference coaches, receiving six of the seven first-place votes.

• Score First And Win
In all six of the Gauchos' wins this season, they have been the first to get on the scoreboard. UCSB is 6-0 when scoring first and has gone 4-0-1 when it scores in the first half.

• Garza Knows Goals
Sophomore Sam Garza brought his team-leading goals count to five with his unassisted strike in the 51st minute of Tuesday's match. Garza's 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists) pace the Gauchos offensively and rank him third among Big West players. He leads the conference with his average of 3.8 shots per game.

• Taking Shots
UCSB has out-shot its opposition in every game this season and in its last 14 consecutive contests. UC Irvine was the last team to out-shoot the Gauchos (19-12) in the 2009 Big West Tournament title game on Nov. 14. UCSB is averaging 16.1 shots per game while limiting its opposition to an average of 8.3.

• Machael's Minutes
Sophomore Machael David has impressively played every minute so far this season making him the only Gaucho to have been on the field all 1,058 minutes the team has played. The midfielder has been a linchpin for the Gaucho defense and on Tuesday, he initiated the play that sealed the Gauchos' last minute victory over Cal Poly with the assist on Luis Silva's game-winning goal.

• Defensive Behavior
UCSB has posted a 0.68 goals against average, which ranks 25th nationally, right behind Duke (0.67). UCSB also ranks 29th among all Division I teams with its .830 saves percentage.

• A Little Bit About Luis
Luis Silva's first goal of the season was well-timed as the junior provided the game-winner in the final minute against Cal Poly. Silva is no stranger to game-clinching heroics as four of his six career goals have been game-winners. This marks the second time he has propelled UCSB to a win over the Mustangs; he scored in last season's 1-0 home victory over Cal Poly (Oct. 7, 2009).

• Reloaded And Ready
UCSB will see the return of two starters on Friday as defender Michael Boxall and goalkeeper Sam Hayden are both allowed back into the lineup following red card suspensions.

Sam Hayden Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist
Sam Hayden was selected as a top-10 finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award is given annually to seniors that have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. Voting to determine the winner has begun and will run through Nov. 14. To vote for Hayden, click here.

• The Vom Steeg File
In his 12th year leading the Gauchos, head coach Tim Vom Steeg is the winningest coach in Big West history. Vom Steeg has posted a 163-64-24 record at the helm of UCSB and a 142-47-23 record since the program rejoined the Big West in 2001. Vom Steeg is also the winningest coach in UCSB men's soccer history and has turned the Gauchos into an annual national title contender. The 2004 and 2006 NSCAA National Coach of the Year, Vom Steeg guided the Gauchos to the NCAA title in 2006 and the championship game in 2004. He has guided UCSB to five Big West titles in the past eight years and eight consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. He won Big West Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2004 and 2005 and has produced 15 All-Americans.
