Cal State Northridge enters the week 6-2-2 with a victory over UC Riverside and a tie with Loyola Marymount coming last week. In their first Big West season, the Matadors have found a home in the statistics, leading the conference in points (43), goals per game (5.38), assists per game (1.62) and fouls per game (20). Gauchos Defeat Cal State Fullerton 3-2 In Conference Opener

UCSB opened their Big West conference schedule with a thrilling victory over pre-season favorite Cal State Fullerton. The Titans, who were last season's MPSF champions, took the lead early with two goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Despite being down 2-0 at halftime, the Gauchos rallied back behind the play of junior forward Rob Friend. Friend scored in the 47th minute and in the 58th minute to even the score at 2-2. In the 71st minute, Friend found Drew McAthy and fed him the game-winner. Senior forward Jaime Ambriz assisted on both of Friend's goals and Tony Lochhead also assisted on McAthy's game-winner. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy allowed two goals and notched four saves.

UCSB Earns Third Tie Of Season, 2-2 With UC Irvine

After Friday night's stunning win, UCSB rallied from behind once again to tie with UC Irvine 2-2 in a double overtime contest. After a scoreless first period, the Gauchos scored their first goal in the 52nd minute when Neil Jones headed a Matt Kubota pass into the net. The Anteaters struck back less than a minute later and evened the score on a Jesse Peron goal. After UC Irvine took the lead in the 65th minute, it looked as though all was lost. However, senior defender Reuben Bates steered a Aaron McAthy tip into the net in the 88th minute to even the score once again. After 30 minutes of overime play, the score remained 2-2 at the completion of play. Forwards Jaime Ambriz and Rob Friend each took five shots in the contest to lead the Gauchos. Ambriz also assisted on Bates' goal. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy notched three saves while allowing two goals in the match.
