Gauchos To Face UC Irvine and San Diego State

UC Santa Barbara will take on a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes this weekend when UC Irvine and San Diego State travel to Santa Barbara. The Anteaters come into Friday night's match with an overall record of 8-5-1, 1-0-1 in MPSF action. Their conference win came over Cal Poly on October 15th. UC Irvine also held Cal State Fullerton to a 1-1 tie in their other MPSF contest. The Aztecs are currently 4-9 on the season, 0-2-0 in MPSF play. San Diego State fell to Cal State Fullerton in 1-0 match and to Cal Poly 2-1 in an overtime match. The Aztecs will face off against Cal State Northridge on Friday night before heading into Harder Stadium on Sunday.

UCSB Falls To Cal State Fullerton, 1-0

After holding Cal State Fullerton scoreless through 100 minutes of play, UC Santa Barbara fell to the visiting Titans 1-0 in an overtime match on Sunday evening. The Gauchos stayed strong during the two periods of regulation play allowing the Titans only 13 shots in 90 minutes. However, in the 101st minute the Titan's Art Ramirez headed a ball past the defenders and into the net for the victory. UCSB was held to only five shots, four of which came in the first period. Junior forward Jaime Ambriz led the team with two shots. The Gauchos are currently 0-3 in overtime matches this season.

Play Time for Pruzin

Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Pruzin had not stepped onto the field during his Gaucho career, until Sunday night. The Tucson, AZ native replaced fellow freshman goalkeeper Erik Stolhandske, in the 45th minute, who left the match due to illness. Pruzin played 56 minutes in the contest, recording two saves and allowing only one goal.

Stolhandske Saves The Day

Despite exiting Sunday's match with an illness, Erik Stolhandske has become one of the premier goalkeepers in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The San Antonio, TX native ranks second in the conference with a goals allowed average of 1.113 and fifth in goalie saves with 4.33. As a team, the Gauchos rank second in the MPSF in team goalkeeping with a GAA of 1.336, just behind UC Irvine who has a 1.290 GAA on the season.

Crucial Conference Rankings

The Gauchos are making a strong showing in the MPSF's Pacific Division statistics. As of October 10th, junior forward Jaime Ambriz is tied for second in goals scored with six and fifth in points per game average with 1.20 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Pacific Division standings. Freshman midfielder Darren Doi is tied for fifth in the division for assists with four. He has also posted a .50 assists per game average, while only playing in eight of the Gaucho's 14 contests.
