Ciaran O'Brien continued to excel offensively this past week as he tallied a goal and an assist in each of UCSB's victories over Big West opponents UC Irvine and Cal Poly.
O'Brien, a sophomore midfielder, scored what became the game-winning goal and assisted on a Brennan Tennelle strike in a 3-1 win at Irvine. The Washington native followed up that performance with a goal and an assist vs. Cal Poly at Harder Stadium. He set up Andy Iro for the game-winner in the 64th minute and scored his seventh goal of the season less than a minute later as the Gauchos downed the Mustangs 3-1.
O'Brien took over the Big West scoring lead with 22 points on seven goals and a conference-best eight assists. He has scored a goal in each of UCSB's last four matches, all victories.
The two wins enabled UCSB to take a commanding two-game lead in the conference standings.
O'Brien was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the second week in a row and was also selected as the Big West Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
