The Gaucho Record
UC Santa Barbara enters the week with an overall record of 10-4-3 and a Big West mark of 6-1-1. With their 5-1 win over Cal Poly this weekend, the Gauchos held on to first place in the Big West standings. The Gauchos also find themselves ranked eighth in the Far West region of the NSCAA Division I regional rankings. UCSB's 19 points leads UC Irvine's 18. The Anteaters are 5-0-3 in Big West action this season. The Gauchos and the Anteaters have pulled away from their conference opponents, with Cal State Northridge as the closest competitor with 13 points. UCSB must defeat or tie the Anteaters on Friday night and defeat Cal State Fullerton on Sunday to win the Big West title. UC Irvine finishes their regular season against Cal Poly on Sunday.

Anteater Action
UC Irvine (9-3-6, 5-0-3 BWC) enters this weekend one point behind the Gauchos in the Big West standings. The Anteaters are the only undefeated team in conference play and have not lost a match since September 30th. UCI is also unbeaten at home this season. The Anteaters defeated Cal State Northridge 4-0 last weekend, handing the Matadors their first home loss this season, and tied with UC Riverside 0-0. Earlier this season, UCSB and UCI finished in a 2-2 double overtime tie at Harder Stadium. Jon Spencer and Scott Bowman lead the Anteaters with six goals each. Goalkeeper Cameron Rossi has taken over duties in the net for CJ Cooper, who started the first 12 matches for UCI this season. Rossi, whose first start came in the 2-2 tie with the Gauchos, has allowed only four goals in seven matches, for a .57 goals allowed average.

Talk of the Titans
After being ranked in the NSCAA Division I poll for much of the early part of the season, Cal State Fullerton (7-10-1, 3-5-0 BWC) has struggled in Big West play. The Titans fell last weekend to Cal State Northridge 2-1 and 4-1 at UC Riverside. It was UCR's first win of the season. The Titans also fell to the Gauchos 3-2 in their Big West opener on October 12th. Cal State Fullerton is led by Hector Orellana who has scored eight goals and tallied three assists this season. His 19 points is good for third in the conference. Sam Reynolds has taken over in the net after Jeff McKeever started the season.. Reynolds has played 503 minutes, allowing only 11 goals for a 1.96 goals allowed average. He has also recorded 30 saves in seven matches played.

UCSB Wins Fourth ina Row 5-1 Over Cal Poly
The Gauchos continued their winning ways with a 5-1 victory at Cal Poly on Friday night. The win gives UCSB its fourth consecutive victory, a trend they hope to continue at UC Irvine. Junior forward Rob Friend recorded his eighth and ninth goals of the season in the victory. Dan Young, Nate Boyden and Gene Deering each added a goal to the Gaucho's tally. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy notched four saves, while allowing one goal in 76 minutes. Erik Stolhandske saw three shots during his 14 minutes in the net, but no save opportunities.

Gauchos in the Big West
With his two goals at Cal Poly, Rob Friend took over the lead in the Big West points race with 22 points. He is one point ahead of Cal State Northridge's Arshak Abyanli. Fellow Gauchos Jaime Ambriz, Drew McAthy and Tony Lochhead are all tied with Matador Edwin Miranda for tops in the conference in assists with five apiece.
