LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The UCSB men's and women's swimming team concluded their invitational in Las Vegas on Saturday. The men finished in 5th place overall with 261 points. The women wrapped up a 6th place overall finish with 241 points.
The Gauchos only competed in the morning preliminaries. In the men's 200 backstroke prelims, Freshmen Dylan Kubick and Albert Miao both finished in 152.98. Junior Chase Lemley was the top Gaucho in the 100 freestyle in 45.5. Junior Chris Dotson finished in 45.56, with senior Alex Campbell right behind with a time of 45.62. Junior Tyler Jean swam a 2:06.84 in the 200 breast prelims. To wrap the day Sophomore Mickey Mowry came in 5th place in the 200 butterfly prelims, finishing in 1:47.37.
In the women's 200 backstroke prelims, the fastest Gaucho was freshman Reid Whaley, who swam a 2:04.62. Senior captain Sophia Yamauchi had the fastest time for the Gauchos in the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke with times of 51.21 and 2:18.58, respectively. Finally, junior Heren Alanis finished the 200 butterfly in 2:02.34.
The Gauchos head into Thanksgiving break next week. A few Gauchos will head to the Texas Swim Invite in Austin on December 5th, while the divers, who were idle, will compete in the Mission Viejo Dive Invite on December 13th.
