• Busy Start to 2014
The Gaucho men are coming off a dual meet victory over Air Force, on Saturday January 4th, by a score of 147-108. Senior Randy Aukhus posted three individual victories over the weekend, while senior Ryan Hanni and sophomore Andy Castilleja had two apiece. "Junior Wade Allen and senior Ryan Hanni are swimming at the top of their game", said head coach Gregg Wilson.
The rivalry between UCSB and UNLV has been going on for over 30 years. The CSCAA (College Swim Coaches Association of America) Top 25 rankings have UNLV at No. 23. This will surely be one of UCSB's most competitive duals. "There's a great deal of respect between our two programs and I expect both sides to come out firing", Wilson went on to say.
The women's swim team will be competing for the first time in 2014 led by senior and two-time MPSF Female Athlete of the Week, Andrea Ward. Ward and the Gauchos will look to continue their winning ways against a UNLV squad they competed against in the Las Vegas Invitational earlier this season.
The three day UCLA diving invite will be the first event of the New Year for the divers. The men will be looking to freshman standout Lester Wright to set the tone for the Gauchos. The invitational will include dives from 1m, 3m and platform 5m, 10m.
