Gauchos Tied for 5th After Day One of Pac-12 Championships
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – After day one of the Pac-12 Championships, the UC Santa Barbara men's swimming team is tied for 5th place with the University of Utah with 54 total points. Day one consisted of two events, the 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard freestyle relay.
In event 1, the Gaucho 'A' team of Randy Aukhus, Andy Castilleja, Wade Allen, and Ryan Hanni swam a 1:27.81 to finish 5th place, a tenth of a second better then 6th place Arizona State. Although not counting for overall points, junior Chase Lemley dazzled for the Gaucho 'B' relay team with a split of 19.39. Lemley was joined by Josh Smith, Tyler Jean, and Richard Davison to swim a total time of 1:29.67.
In the second and final event of the night, the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Allen, Lucas Norman, Alex Campbell, and Hanni placed 6th with a time of 6:27.78. In the 'B' relay, Mickey Mowry, Clayton Young, Andrew Dossa and Armen Darbinyan came out on top with a 6:34.34. The splits by Mowry and Dossa were identical at a solid 1:37.67.
The Gauchos begin day two Thursday morning at 11am in the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle. At 6pm the finals will take place in each event including the finals of the 200 freestyle relay.
