FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Day two of the Pac-12 Championships came to a close with the UC Santa Barbara men's swimming team in 7th place with 93 total points. In the preliminaries of the 50 yard freestyle, junior Wade Allen set a school record with a time of 19.45.
Andrew Barmann was the top swimmer for the Gauchos in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:30.25, good for 24th place. In the men's 'C' final of the 200 individual medley, Randy Aakhus and Andy Castilleja swam a 1:48.32 and 1:48.68, respectively.
In the finals of the 50 yard freestyle, Allen came in 8th place with a time of 19.64. The Gauchos concluded the day with a 6th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Allen, Alex Campbell, Chase Lemley, and Ryan Hanni swam a 1:18.92. Hanni also set a personal record in the 50 yard freestyle consolation with a 19.92, breaking the 20 second barrier for the first time in his career.
Day three will begin at 11am on Friday with the preliminaries of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke. The finals of each of those events will take place at 6pm including the finals of the 400 yard medley relay.
