SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --For the third consecutive week, UCSB Gaucho swimmers have taken over MPSF swimmer of the week awards. This week, it's senior Julia Mikota and junior Jonathan Panchak who snagged the nomination, after taking two individual wins and one relay win each in the last dual meet of the season against Cal Poly.
Mikota swept the sprint freestyle events, touching first in the 50 yard freestyle (23.90) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.86).
She also anchored the winning 400 yard freestyle relay (52.19 split), and finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (57.35). This is Mikota's first MPSF swimmer of the week award.
Jonathan Panchak dominated the breaststroke events, touching first in the 100 (56.71) and 200 (2:05.74) yard breaststroke. Panchak swam in the winning 200 yard medley relay (25.11 split) as well.
Panchak currently holds the fastest MPSF 200 yard breaststroke time (1:59.43). This is Panchak's first MPSF swimmer of the week award.
Watch out for Mikota and Panchak with the rest of the Gaucho swimmers this upcoming month at MPSF conference, February 15-18.
