Gaucho Women in First Place Lead, Men Tied for First Day One of MPSF Conference Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Gaucho swimmers took on day one of MPSF conference by breaking three UCSB school records in the women's 800 yard freestyle relay, men's 200 yard medley relay, and the 800 yard freestyle relay. In addition, the women's 200 yard medley relay and the men's 800 yard freestyle relay each broke a conference record. The Gaucho women finished day one with a first place lead in front of Hawaii (74-70), while the men tied for first with University of Hawaii (72-72).

For the first event of the meet, the Gaucho women (1:38.99) started off strong by bringing in a first place win in the 200 yard medley relay. Cheyenne Low, Heaven Quintana, Allie Stevens, and Julia Mikota broke the MPSF record in this event, which was previously set by UCSB in 2012 (1:39.63).

The Gaucho men (1:26.46) placed third in the 200 yard medley relay, edged out by Hawaii and PAC by less than half a second lead. Billy Mullis, Jonathan Panchak, Yoessef Tibazi, and Mason Tittle broke the UCSB school record for the event, previously set in 2015 (1:27.14).

In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the Gaucho women (7:15.31) touched second by less than a second to Hawaii (7:15.31). Catherine Boles, Emily Boggess, Haley Herzberg, and Meghan Bicomong also set a new UCSB school record, which was previously set in 2014 (7:16.42).

Day one ended with a staggering first place finish for the Gaucho men (6:21.50) in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Dylan Kubick, Billy Mullis, Logan Hotchkiss and Eric Vanbrocklin broke both the UCSB school record (6:24.55) set in 2012, and the MPSF Conference record (6:28.53) set in 2013 by UNLV.

With an impressive day one down, the Gaucho swimmers return to East LA College pool today for the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard IM, 50 yard freestyle and 200 yard freestyle relay events.
